Earth Day

We began our week reading Recycle Every Day! by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace.  Each morning during interactive writing, students added to their Earth Day Pledge.
Our illustrator, Calvin Tamblyn, explained that the left side of the picture showed the sad Earth and the right side showed the happy Earth because everyone worked together to pick up the garbage.

Students loved putting their pledge into action by cleaning up areas around Luther School.

Tornado Drill

On Thursday, April 19, we had a tornado drill.  Students read about tornadoes and practiced going to a safe place at Luther Elementary School.  I was very impressed with how quiet and calm the kindergarten students were for this activity.  I took a few pictures of our morning practice before the actual tornado drill in the afternoon.

Math Centers

We have enjoyed math centers. Our focus has been on coin recognition and exchange, sorting, graphing, and place value.

On Friday, students were able to make a math game choice.  It was fun to see which games students enjoy the most!
Brian, Bernardo, and Juan enjoy a game of Bump.

Evelyn and Jenna are playing Go Fish with analog and digital clocks.

Kaden and Owen like to play Bump.

Poetry

April is poetry month and we have used this time to rewrite familiar nursery rhymes during interactive writing.  Together we composed each line and shared the pen to write the words.  On April 18, our class was able to share our writing with Luther School during the morning announcements.

Snail Investigations

We began our study of snails by viewing a video of land snails.  Later, we were able to closely investigate water snails and compare the two types of snails.

Sorting shells was an activity we used to conclude our investigation of snails.  We learned that there are a lot of different types of snails and shells.

Making a snail project was lots of fun too!
