Writing

We are learning to be better readers and writers!  This week we began writing our morning message together.  Our lessons have focused on starting each sentence with a capital letter, using spaces, and ending with a period.

Visiting the Fire Station

Each day we begin the day with a "Question of the Day" and learn about our class.  This week our questions have focused on fire prevention and safety.  We  use this activity to learn important math skills. It has also helped us practice writing our names correctly.  We are really improving in this area!

On Thursday, we were able to take a bus to the Fort Atkinson Fire Department.  The firefighters gave us a wonderful tour and showed us the many different trucks and tools they use.  After the tour, we went downstairs to watch a DVD about fire prevention and safety.

Look at the size of those tires!!

Everyone loved our visit to the fire station!

Pumpkin Pumpkin

We enjoyed reading Pumpkin Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington for shared reading this week.  We made a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences between pumpkins and apples.  We made a project to show how a pumpkin begins with a seed and grows to be a sprout..plant...flower...and then a pumpkin.

The Terrible Tiger and Thoughtful Logs

We had fun reading The Terrible Tiger by Joy Cowley and John Francis
this week. We used patterns to make tiger tails to help us retell the story.

We started to use our Thoughtful Logs
to help record our learning.  We learned that
authors use powerful words and phrases when they
write.  We recorded the words Creep and Scamper
from our reading of The Terrible Tiger. We also
recorded our thoughts from the story and how
it caused us to think of a time when we were
scared.
